Capitalism, Supply and Demand, Competition..
(see Economics Class Notes below)
Why isnt anyone talking about
Capitalism, supply and demand, competition..
  It's what made America great.
This lack of discourse is also what led to SO MANY large business organizations failing and almost(?) RUINING America!   You can make believe you're Einstein and debate macro-Economics etc, but how does that benefit America and its place in the World!?
Basic
"supply and demand" .
Stick to that and everything else will fix itself!
"Supply and Demand" ... First let me say that I am in no way anti-Foreigner, etc.   Now to make my point..   American politicians and businessmen will often say that the reason we have to export jobs to other countries is because labor and other resources are cheaper there.   Hmmm...
Well I dont believe that is usually the case!   In fact I'm willing to do any office or computer related job for 10-15% less than you normally pay!!!
Most office positions I've seen (not including Programming positions that pay much more) pay between $24-32k/year.   There are a few who make less or more.
I can guarantee you that I will perform as good, or likely better, than most of the higher paid (10% more) employees.
And the argument that you will always get a better quality employee if you pay more is not valid either!   In fact, if you hire a student you're much more likely to get a better quality employee, even if you pay 10% less.
Between working in the Computer industry and going to school I've found that school gives you at 10 times more experience and knowledge than the actual work ("for the same amount of time").
Guys I hate to say it.. But what are you doing?
I keep seeing all these Programming positions paying $20-40/hr for full-time, not contract or consulting, but full-time with benefits.
Guys/Ladies you only need 1 out of 4/5 of your programmers to be at that level (10+yrs experience and degreed)!!!   The rest can be accomplished students, with a few years experience.   You dont have to pay EVERY programmer 60grand, unless you just like giving money away!   Most of the code produced can be programmed by Junior or mid-level programmers.   I was just at the City of Dallas web-site and saw several Programmer positions ($40-80,000).   And I heard this morning how they're (Dallas) laying off a bunch of teachers and other city employees.   If that's the case you dont have 60grand to give EVERY programmer!   You wonder why there's a budget problem, and teachers and other city employees are being laid off.   Try using supply and demand.   Anyone doing the counting here.   When I did get programmer consulting positions in the past there was always a Sr Programmer who helped with the SQL server access, passwords, etc.   You may need a little help now and then, but having a 4yr degree doesnt change that.   I never had to ask a lot of questions.   I wasnt even in school at the time, actually knew considerably less than I do now, and was/am not good at job hunting.
I cant swear I can do everything a $60K degreed programmer can, but I can do most all.   Besides, that's not usually necessary.   And since I've aced EVERY programming or computer related course over the past 3 years I'm sure I could learn the new stuff (which "anyone" has to do anyway).   If you got your degree in 1990/1995/etc, how are you a better Programmer than a current "A" student.   There are new languages/etc coming out every few months it seems.
Straight A's in most ALL of my classes over the past 3 years (2 B's).   Over 148 total college hours completed.
Americans fret about our drop in competition with other countries education-wise, but they dont support their students.
Working full-time and going to school is difficult enough.   However I dont make enough to pay for tuition and books.
Isn't making A's enough.   Come on America.   Help students who are making the extra effort to achieve and learn.   By helping us you help America.
Please join others in helping American students.   Jobs are even better than service discounts.

I've included some work
samples / programs
below for your use and examination.   I have more work product than you see presented here, but haven't had the time to prerpare or complete them to a point I thought was presentable for upload.
You'll notice that most of my programs/demos are medium to large size demos.
The reason I spend the time to do this is to show more skill, experience, & maturity as a programmer.
It requires a lot more skill to write a decent "medium size or large program" as opposed to a small 1 or 2 screen demo program.
Anyone can write really snazzy one screen demos. But if you're a Sr programmer, supervisor, or one who hires programmers, you know such one screen demos are mostly child's play, with "one or two skills" applied.   You take one course and show 1-2 skills.
Since the the programming languages and work demands for today's environment
keep changing I've become good in several languages
(C#, Flash, SQL, ASP.Net, VB, Javascript/HTML, Access, Excel, etc),
rather than a Guru in one.
And I look forward to learning and conquering the next.
I program for Windows and the Internet.
I'm also a pretty good writer and write good comprehensible documentation.
However due to time constraints most all of the samples below have limited or no documentation.

Although my
"Green10"
(Download)
program below does have decent documentation.   The documentation is usually a little out of date, since modifications are made monthly/weekly to Green10.
Of course really good programs take time!
More to come when I get them presentable for uploading (smile).
Hey.. BTW, most of my Programs are also much faster than most Microsoft Windows and other large software company applications!
I'm sure you can appreciate that (smile).
Any of these programs can be customized or further developed to suit your needs!   Enjoy them.

Why should a programmer with these skills make "less than $10 an hour"?   Come on America, I must have more money! ![]() Offer me $10.50+ and I'm yours.   Thats a Win-Win offer you'd be CRAZY to refuse! I dont have a Bachelor's degree yet, but I do have an Object Oriented Programming degree, am currently in school (over 148 hours completed - all A's in all computer courses taken over past 36 months), have over 10 years experience (see skills) in a variety of Programming Languages, intermediate to advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office software applications, and I type 45wpm. Do the right thing, And help your company, by hiring a Student/Programmer. Why hire an Office/Administrative Assistant or Data Entry Person for $12-15/hr when you can get a current straight "A" college student for $11 !!!   I type 45/wpm (current max), perform data-entry and 10-key, know all of the Microsoft Suite (some expertly), AND know how to program web-pages, graphic animations, spreadsheets, all sorts of "professional business applications", etc, etc, etc. |

This unfinished web-site serves as a "sort of web sample".   It's actually just a neat and orderly throw together to "present some programming skills" to employers; not a complete web-site (time is money!). It's basically nice and simple.   I can and do code (advanced JavaScript, advanced HTML, Flash, ASP.Net, PHP, some Java, some Ajax, etc) more complex pages (lots done in class and for research). It just takes time & thought to apply the code & designs to my personal webpage here, and also time to maintain the pages! Also, it seems odd to me that folks would upload their very fancy and time-intensive Javascript/etc web-pages for the average person with no training and little experience to simply and easily download and steal. This is the case with over 90% of "non-ASP" "non-PHP" web-pages - standard HTML/Javascript web-pages. They are easily downloaded or saved to the hard-drive of anyone who takes a minute to download/steal them. When downloaded, all of the author's (web-developer's) and/or companies code, business logic, copyrighted material, etc is easily readable or copied. Why pay someone $20-30 an hour to write and create these nice web-pages, or go to school for years to learn the languages/etc it you can just steal it in a download? Other less laborious material (songs, books, etc) is copyrighted and protected. I dont understand why this hasn't been corrected for web-pages. Not angry, just dont understand. I think this is something the Internet Associations, Microsoft, major Browser developers, and others really need to fix. Anyway, I'll upload some more secure ASP.Net and PHP web-page samples when I have extra time.   Most people and small businesses dont need all this fancy stuff anyway, but companies and employers often want it.   So, I have the skills and they are recent. If you're an individual, artist (Artist Sample / Demo Page,   Demo Page#2) , or small business wanting a "simple one page" Website built where you can display your portfolio, services, business, or present some other talent, I can do that for you for $25-100! That's right only $25!   Any "extra coding" would be charged accordingly.   But for just images, text, links, and layout, that's very simple work for me; so I dont charge much.   Most people only need a simple starter page with maybe a couple of extra pages.   That's pretty simple and pleasurable work for me.   If you need any additional pages (portfolio of work, about, contact, etc) I can add those inexpensively for an additional $20 per page.   That's right only$20 for each additional page!   The only thing that really costs extra is additional coding, database hookups, moving images/animations, sound, etc - the really fancy stuff.   I can do the fancy and/or the simple.   If you already have a Domain Name, some images for the webpage, and some idea of what you want it to look like I can have a simple one page design built and online running in 3 days or less.   If you dont have these things and want me to do it all for you it will require more time and a little more cost.   Of course any design changes require additional time; and the fancy stuff (mentioned above) requires much more time.   Although this webpage sample is basically something neat and simple, I can and do do more elaborate designs: layouts, art, animations, etc. Whatever you want. To save you angst over which web developer to choose I require only an initial $25 deposit to start any webpage/etc.   This is non-refundable.   However, unlike most other developers, if you are not satisfied with my work for the price paid you dont have to pay the remaining balance.   Of course you cant use any of the work-prodoct either!!!   So if I've worked a week on a website and have quoted you a price of $500, but you for some strange reason change your mind about it you dont have to pay the $500, only the initial $25.   So you're not out of pocket for something you wont use. |
I'm currently taking (now or within past 6 months): Networking, Photoshop, Economics, etc. Some courses I've Aced within the past 24 months:   Photoshop, Economics, PHP-MySQL, Flash, ASP.Net, DC Circuits, PC Hardware, Java |
Americans fret about our drop in competition with other countries education-wise, but they dont support their students.
Working full-time and going to school is difficult.   And getting financial assistance is as hard (complex) as running for Congress.
There's no extra time for filling out very lengthy Scholarship or Assistance forms, then finding out you dont qualify for some reason - too complex. Isn't making A's enough.   Come on America.   Help students who are making the extra effort to achieve and learn. (hint - Jobs are even better than service discounts) Between working in the Computer industry and going to school I've found that school gives you at least 10 times more experience and knowledge than the actual work (for the same amount of time). |

Logic
Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC) The father of Logic and Western thought! "In 335 he founded his own school in Athens, the Lyceum. His intellectual range was vast, covering most of the sciences and many of the arts. He worked in physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, and botany; in psychology, political theory, and ethics; in logic and metaphysics; and in history, literary theory, and rhetoric. He invented the study of formal logic, devising for it a finished system, known as syllogistic, that was considered the sum of the discipline until the 19th century; his work in zoology, both observational and theoretical, also was not surpassed until the 19th century. His ethical and political theory, especially his conception of the ethical virtues and of human flourishing (happiness), continue to exert great influence in philosophical debate." (quoted from Encyclopedia Britannica) God is Orderly. |
Special Thanks and Prayers for:
Sondra, a lovely lady and wonderful human being who I had the pleasure of assisting
in what was my first office job (at Santa Fe Minerals).   I had recently learned how to type.
I did filing and labels, that sort of thing.   Since she has married and I dont know
her married name I'll just call her Sondra here.
Mike Hyrowski, an excellent Manager and generous man, who gave me the opportunity
of my first Management role (Assistant Manager at a very nice Wine Restaurant in an upscale neighborhood).
He helped me not only learn how to manage effetively and fairly, but also in many other ways,
for which I am forever thankful.
Snow Lamar, my grandfather.
I think he's the most generous and decent man I've ever known!!!
Just knowing who he was and observing him perform his duties as Church Deacon, Father, Grandfather, (also War Hero), etc, and spending time with him left me humble and thinking.. I hope I can be that "decent" a man! I believe I've done better than most in that category, but have still not come close to his shadow.
Yeah, I know you say, well he was your gandfather. Of course he's one of your heroes or favorite persons. But I'm not embelishing anything here.
Dr Moomaw, a very good Veterinarian and pleasant man, gave me the
"privilege" of interning with him for several summers, when I was a
youngster. At the time I thought I wanted to be a Veterinarian
(smile).
I remember these people with great fondness and respect, and pray that they
live 100-120 healthy happy years (seriously).

Meditation ... whether you do it: to move closer to GOD, for greater self-awareness (of the true self), for relaxation, physical/mental toning, breathing control, Meditation is good practice.
Another comment I'd like to make:   When I use to study and read about meditating there was a lot of talk about
living in the moment.
I've noticed a lot of persons could use help living in the moment.   Escapism and fabrication (besides movies and other legal forms of entertainment) are usually unhealthy and may indicate mental problems.   Try harder to deal with reality and the moment.   Concentrate on your deep breathing and what you are doing at the moment.

Wages Discussion Video "Economics involves the use of a logical pattern of thinking as well as the use of a number of analytical tools." "Individuals who produce the largest quantities of those items that are considered most desirable will be rewarded with the highest income." "..competition. The goal of efficiency is to produce the maximum output of desirable items with a given input. For a business, this will lead to a gain in market share.." Adam Smith, Scottish Economist and Philosopher, remembered as the 'Father of Economics'.   Adam Smith theorized that those who work harder and smarter will receive a larger slice of the economic pie.   His best-known work, "The Wealth of Nations", was published in 1776 and provided the theoretical foundation of our free-market economy.   "The functional distribution of income is based on the factors of production..   Each factor is paid according to its contribution to production.   Laborers receive income for wages and salaries, entrepreneurs for profit, landowners for rent and capital providers for interest.   Labor receives about 71 percent of national income, entrepreneurship about 23 percent, landowners about 5 percent, with the remaining 1 percent going to capital."   Note that 71% goes to Labor! "Many factors determine an individuals income including education, age, skills, inheritance and location.   However, the most important factors are education, experience and training.   According to the U.S. Census Bureau, workers in 2006 with a high school education made $28,290 median income, while workers with a bachelors or masters degree made $47,240 and $56,707, respectively." "In 'The Wealth of Nations' (the books popular title) [by Adam Smith], the question of how income and wealth should be distributed was answered by productivity: the volume and utility of a workers output.   The more 'utility' that an individual created for society, the greater the income and wealth to which that person was entitled.   The overall market process was called the 'invisible hand' and this is a phrase we often use to describe the benefits of competition within the market. In economic terms, Utility refers to satisfaction or benefit.   For instance, buying a new and fast sports car gives one a great amount of Utility.   Another sample: Mr. Jones' quick and efficient delivery of your UPS parcels creates utility.   Without his efficient service you would receive less of the utility (satisfaction or benefit) you expect. Fair "distribution of income is essential to the health and survival of a free society.   It is important to note here that an 'equitable' distribution of the economic pie does not mean an 'equal' piece of pie for everybody.   It does mean that every person should have an equal opportunity to earn a larger piece of the pie..." Supply, Demand & Competition: Stated simply.. Demand comes from a Need/Desire/Want.   Supply comes from our natural Resources and Business Production.   Demand should drive Supply.   But additionally there must be fair Competition.   Without fair Competition, supply, prices, demand, and the economic goals of efficiency, freedom, equity, balance, stability, etc get schewed!   These are major objectives, not just ideals. |
